WoW Mum’s of Wandsworth! Happy 10th Anniversary…

WoW Mum’s of Wandsworth! Happy 10th Anniversary…

Women of Wandsworth, WoW Mums, are a group of mothers in Wandsworth who seek out new ways of educating and entertaining their children within the community. Three years ago, it was an art exhibition called MOVE It was also one of our first ArtsWatch pieces! This exhibition has now proved to be the inspiration for an intergenerational dance piece called “Radiate” which will be performed at City Hall 7th November to celebrate their 10th anniversary.  Listen to how Mel Barry curated all this with choreographer, Jo Leahy and what one of the youngest performers, 8 year old Marian had to say about it.  Not content with that, Mel invited local poet Hilaire to collaborate and the result was a new poem, inspired by the dance workshops, called “Unchartered”.

It’s a fitting month to run as season with a military theme and TheatreN16 in Balham is 3 shows on under the banner of “Aftershock”.  Ian interviews the team behind the first piece “IED”, already a prize winning play, although this is its debut.  You’ll have to listen in to bottom out that riddle.

“The Trap” has begun its three week run at the Omnibus and we found out all about the career of the director, Dan Ayling and how rehearsals for this show were going, all in the space of his lunch break.

The Gothic novel never ceases to appeal, and what’s more they don’t have to be about women in bonnets and men in breeches.  It can get updated.  We speak to two authors at a local reading at Dulwich Books.  Creepy children with a grievance, unreliable narrators, modern politics and therapy that fails to bring matters back on track…

In flickering candlelight we spoke to Laura Purcell about her debut book “The Silent Companions” and Andrew Michael Hurley about his book “The Devil’s Day” which is soon to be made into a film.

And if that makes you think you have the making of a writer in you, you could do worse than pop along to a 60 Minute Writing Workouts.  Greta Solomon tells us more…
