With a woof! Not a whimper!

With a woof! Not a whimper!

The previews are over, the real thing is now live and kicking in Edinburgh until Bank Holiday weekend. Here’s what’s on the agenda for our visit so far but we’d love to get your tips – tweet them to us @ArtsWatch.

Bark! the Musical

A young Jack Russell pup is searching to find his bark. Done. Don’t need to know anymore. Got my ticket. But if you did need more information, this is called a stunning musical homage to dogs and their intrepidly “human hearts” – lonely, hungry, horny, and howlingly funny.  They have already done one show as a bring-your-dog to the show…must remember to take biscuits!

Six

Audiences are losing their heads over this show, yes they are.  The Tudor times weren’t all about one man you know.  Six wives have all got their own story to tell.  Here they do it to music accompanied by a six strong female rock band.  It’s coming down here too and we’re aiming to get an interview while up there ahead of the performances for us in London. It’s getting a tremendous response, we can’t wait!

Sinatra:Raw

This is not a tribute show – really important to know that.  It’s 1971 and Frank Sinatra is preparing for his last pre-retirement gig at The Purple Room in Palm Springs. This is the 2am Sinatra you dream of meeting: Dangerous. Unpredictable. Startling. Brilliant. We saw this in preview – it really is an electric performance from Richard Shelton.  As the scotch goes down, the truth comes out.

Barely Methodical Troupe in “Shift”

Still called an emerging art form, contemporary circus just grows and grows and has its own hub at the Fringe.  We’ve seen their first two shows “Bromance” and “Kin”.  There’s a new line-up this year and a new show, “Shift”. You might feel obliged to re-start your crunches after seeing the athleticism on display in this performance.

Ada Campe & the Psychic Duck

Variety! Comedy! A psychic duck! Join 2018 New Act of the Year winner, Ada Campe, for a show about wonderful women, strange encounters and a fairground mystery that occurred on the Welsh coast many moons ago… Ada’s alta ego contributed to our radio documentary about Charlotte Despart this year.  We feel we’ve got to see the real character behind the public image here…

Kika’s Birthday

Kika, a little French mouse, is going to be five years old! Her family has planned a birthday surprise, with friends, songs and a grasshopper band. But who is that with a twitchy tail and shining eyes watching them closely? It’s that bright orange cat. Listen to our interview with Danya Miller when she was on our doorstep with the show, not so long ago.

Struan All Over the World

Struan is a Scottish comedian who spoke to us when he was down for the Wandsworth Arts Fringe earlier this year is now back up on home turf in Edinburgh.  His world travels forms the basis of his act and while we are away, you can get a taster when you hear the interview he gave us when he was down south.

ArtsWatch airs Monday, Tuesday and Thursday just after the 6.30pm headlines.  This is just a little taster of this month’s schedule for arts and culture news in Wandsworth and neighbouring boroughs.
