The Barnes Children’s Literature Festival takes place from 10th-13th May.

This Monday, Lesley Strachan meets the Director of Barnes Childrens’ Literary Festival. In its 3rd year, it’s bigger and better than ever before! Lesley speaks to Amanda Brettagh who explains how 100 voulnteers in Barnes pull together to attract some of the most well-known names in children’s literature. It takes place from 10th-13th May and will include the London stage premiere of Lauren Child’s “Ruby Redford”, Harry Hill holding a workshop for youngsters aspiring to comedy and Matilda Musical Theatre Workshop run by the Royal Academy of Dance. Barnes is also the first festival to provide sign language support for Ross Montgomery’s latest book “Max and the Millions” which stars a young deaf boy. Hear about this fantastic festival on Artswatch from 6:30pm.

Then on Tuesday, Sarah Davey-Hall, director of Theatre503’s latest play “Reared”, chats to Lesley from 6:30pm on Artswatch ahead of the opening night. Three generations of women living in London reveal some secrets and make some new ones.The writer wanted to showcase the ” Irish Mammy” that he knew from his own childhood. After the evening performance on 18th April there is a panel discussion aimed at young women looking to start their theatre careers.

On Wednesday evening from 6:30pm, People and Places team Mike Stead and Pamela Mounter chat to the Katherine Low Settlement, a charity dedicated to tackling poverty and building stronger communities and also chat to the Battersea United Charities which has been helping the people of Battersea since 1641.

Straight after, from 7pm, Croydon-based indie disco trio BUGEYE joins the Joyzine Radio Show live in the studio ahead of the release of their new single ‘I’m Not The One’.

This Thursday afternoon, join Lexie Carducci (above, left) who meets Amber from Power Paws Fitness. It’s a fitness class on Wandsworth common where you can workout with your dog! Tune in from 10am to Wandsworth Workday.

From a time when money was tight and prospects were low and every teenager lived for Saturday night, comes a new musical, ‘Teddy’. On Thursday‘s ArtsWatch at 6:30pm, Ian dons his drainpipes to meet Dylan Wood and Harrison White from the show at the Vaults.

On Friday evening join Andy Bungay (right) for as Chris Coghlan, co-founder of Wandsworth Renew, is on The Chiminea from 11pm, as well as a range of other eclectic guests, music and more.

On Saturday, how many UK number ones can you remember that have not only topped the UK charts, but also topped the US charts? Join Steve on the Retro Chart Show from 8pm to hear some of his favourites!

Finally on Sunday, tune in to The 80s Brunch with Ian Barclay. Ian will be hearing from The Errant Stage’s co-founder Kate; The Errant Stage is a mobile performance space that will be travelling through our borough in May. Hear more about her story and what to expect from the van from 11am.
