Wandsworth Radio Noticeboard – 23rd-29th April

Hello! Welcome back to the Wandsworth Radio Noticeboard, our weekly showcase of some of the best content on the station for each week. We’ve got politics, we’ve got arts and even got The Beatles this week.

Okay, so we don’t have the Beatles live in studio – but we have got a fantastic, fun-filled week ahead and you can join us on the website by clicking that button in the top right corner of the webpage (you can’t miss it) or taking us out with you as the weather picks up on the TuneIn radio app.

Artswatch goes out Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm.

Whilst we’ve got loads coming up, it is also worth reminding you all that we are the local media partner this year for the Wandsworth Arts Fringe which is on 4-20th May. ArtsWatch will also be featuring some performers from 6:30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as the other guests appearing on other shows across the station.  Wandsworth Radio will be broadcasting LIVE on Sunday 13th May from the Errant Stage at their Balham gig.(https://www.wandsworthfringe.com/whats-on-2018/waf-on-wheels-balham). WAF opens on 4th May this year at the BATTERSEA CIRCUS GARDEN – a big top tent at Shillington Gardens, SW11 2TT which will be a hub for all circus events and a bit more (celebrating 250 year anniversary of circus. You can get involved on social media; just use #WAF2018.

Here’s what the rest of the week has to offer on Wandsworth Radio…

On Monday’s Artswatch from 6:30pm with Ian Barclay, have you ever wanted to write your true feelings down on a piece of paper and then watch them float away? Well, there’s an event at this year’s WAF which will enable you to do just that. Ian finds out more about ‘A Love Letter To London’ from Matt Hopwood of #ahumanlovestory.

The Battle for Wandsworth: Monday, 8pm. Ravi Govindia and Simon Hogg are amongst other guests from the Lib Dems, Greens and Renew.

Then shortly afterwards, it is the Battle for Wandsworth LIVE on Wandsworth Radio from 8pm. You can hear what a number of our local council hopefuls will provide for you in a live on air debate. Representatives will be on air from the Liberal Democrats, the Greens, new partyRenew Britain, as well as current council leader Ravi Govindia (Conservatives) and Cllr Simon Hogg (Labour). Get involved with the conversation using #BattleForWandsworth.

Then on Tuesday’s Artswatch from 6:30pm, Michael Rosen’s much-loved poem ‘Chocolate Cake’ has been expanded and adapted into a children’s play at Wimbledon’s Polka Theatre. Ian meets two of the stars, Todd Heppenstall and Mark Houston to check on their baking skills.

On Thursday, just a short walk from Clapham Junction station from the 4th May you will see a big top in Shillington Gardens. Lesley speaks to producer Flora Herberich about how she has curated some 20 contemporary circus acts from home and abroad for The Battersea Circus Garden as part of #WAF2018 and you can hear all about it from 6:30pm on Artswatch.

On Friday, Founder and Principal of the WenLin Chinese School, Haiyun Rosa Wang, will be on the Wandsworth Workday with Hazel talking about the WLCS’ plans for the Wandsworth Arts Fringe. The 2018 Chinese Traditional Arts Festival presents the most fabulous and splendid Chinese arts & culture feast to the audience, including stage performances, exhibitions, an arts education program, Chinese Martial Art Gala. We support YoungMinds campaigning for Mental Health issues in young people. Tune in to hear all about it from 10:30am.

Saturday from 8pm sees Steve present a Beatles special (I told you we had some Beatles this week)! Guests Dave Etheridge (from the band Progfathers) and Ernie, one of the organisers behind the British Beatles fan club) will discuss the “Magical Mystery Tour” album and will choose some of their favourite Beatles songs for the show.

And finally, this Sunday sees Fleur and Asi joined by Friar Andrew Ebrahim as well as teachers and students from St John Bosco College in Battersea, as they discuss their Saleisians mission work in India from 9am on Sunday Joy.
