Wandsworth Radio Noticeboard – 16th-22nd April

This week is a fantastic week on Wandsworth Radio – certainly not one to miss!

We are also delighted to be the local media partner this year for the Wandsworth Arts Fringe (#WAF2018) which is on 4-20th May.

· ArtsWatch will be featuring some performers (Mondays/Tuesdays and Thursdays just after 6.30pm news).

· Wandsworth Radio will be broadcasting live on Sunday 13th May from the Errant Stage at their Balham gig.(https://www.wandsworthfringe.com/whats-on-2018/waf-on-wheels-balham)

· WAF opens on 4th May this year at the BATTERSEA CIRCUS GARDEN – a big top tent at Shillington Gardens, SW11 2TT which will be a hub for all circus events and a bit more (celebrating 250 year anniversary of circus).

Now to the week ahead…

On Monday morning, Richard Fitchett (writer) and Joe Murray (director) from ‘Rooting Tooting‘ that have plays ‘Swag’ and ‘Tooting Shorts’ on at Wandsworth Fringe will be interviewed by Izzy Bishop (left) on Morning Wandsworth with McDonald’s Balham from 9:30am, but she’s live on air from 7am!

Later on Monday, it’s back to the era of Teddy Boys and Judies on Monday’s ArtsWatch as Ian Barclay dons his Blue Suede Shoes to meet Dylan Wood and Harrison White from the new musical ‘Teddy’ which is now on at The Vaults – you can catch up on how Ian’s day went by tuning in from 6:30pm.

Then on Tuesday’s Morning Wandsworth with McDonald’s Balham, Sadiq Ali and Vendetta Vainfrom Our House, a show in Wandsworth Arts Fringe. Again, you can catch them from 9:30am but the show kicks off live on Wandsworth Radio from 7am.

Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet!

Then in the evening on Tuesday, DJ Dolly Mix speaks to Nikki Spencer, founder of Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet, a unique and fabulous night out with a twist! Not only the best 70s & 80s pop, soul, funk and disco tunes for people who love a good boogie, but this night out has it all – a hula-hooping DJ, dance line-ups to get the party started and a discotastic glitter-booth! Tune in to hear more on Artswatch from 6:30pm.

On Wednesday morning, join Carpet Martin from 7am on Morning Wandsworth with McDonald’s Balham who is joined by Rogue Opera. Rogue Opera is a brand new opera company, formed by Balham resident Bronwen Stephens with a mission to bring top-class opera productions to new spaces and audiences. Theyy’ll be debuting their first show – Carmen – at the Wandsworth Fringe, and the production will then go on to tour. Future shows in unusual spaces include in a 15th century barn in Kent for an audience of 90, in a Synagogue Hall in North London and at a pop-up pub in a riverside cellar conversion in The Malverns.

On WednesdayPeople and Places is on from 6:30pm and chats to Rebeckah Dalton, the borough’s Beat It! Coordinator. Rebeckah will be talking about promoting a healthy lifestyle and weight management for children and young people.

Then on Thursday, Tom King chats to author Elizabeth Buchan about the upcoming Clapham Book Festival happening on the 12th May at various venues across Clapham Common. Over a glass of wine they discuss the wide range of authors and events that festival-goers can expect, the Common’s reputation as a haven for writers, and her most recent book set in post-war Clapham: ‘The New Mrs Clifton’. There’s time for some wise words of advice for any budding writers out there, too. Listen in to Artswatch from 6:30pm.

On Saturday evening, Steve will present some of his favourite Northern Soul songs on the Retro Chart Show from 8pm from some you will know, such as Jackie Wilson, to a lot of obscure Northern Soul songs!

 

van Overbeek will be on with Ian from 11am.

Finally to round off your week, join Ian Barclay who meets Lysanne van Overbeek (right) to talk about ‘Lady of Stavoren’ – a Dutch fable about greed and love – which will be playing at the Wandsworth Arts Fringe as part of the Fragility Takeover. Tune in from 11am.
