Tea with Charlotte Despard on Saturday 23rd June

What does it mean to you to have the same democratic rights as everyone else? Wandsworth Radio is celebrating 90 years since the Representation of the People Act 1928, which gave all men and women over 21 the equal right to vote.

Working with The Katherine Low Settlement, Waste Not, Want Not project and other partners on the Doddington and Rollo Estate we will come together as a community to share, debate, and celebrate what equality means to you.

You’re invited to our event TEA WITH CHARLOTTE DESPARD at The Venue Community Centre, Battersea Park Road on Saturday 23rd June from 3-5pm. It will feature tea, sandwiches and cake, but also performance! We have poetry, art and song all provided by local artists and groups who have been inspired by Charlotte Despard.

Charlotte Despard was president of the Women’s Freedom League, resident in Battersea and stood as a candidate for Parliament in that first election of 1918. Our radio studio is based in Battersea on Charlotte Despard Avenue.

SHARE: Afternoon tea, poetry, song, art
DEBATE: Our voting rights LIVE on Wandsworth Radio
CELEBRATE: Our local suffragette Charlotte Despard

Wandsworth Radio will be broadcasting the debate over tea, sandwiches and cake LIVE online at WandsworthRadio.com and on the TuneIn App for smart phones and tablets.
