Get involved with the Wandsworth Arts Fringe (WAF) and take part in WAF Young Reporters with Riverside Radio. The project isfor young people aged 14 - 19, who live or study in the borough of Wandsworth. These projects are completely free, and support is available to cover travel costs if required.

Step into the shoes of a radio broadcaster on the WAF Young Reporters scheme with Riverside Radio. Learn how to conduct interviews with artists and event organisers for a radio broadcast over multiple sessions. Sessions May 2024 – April 2025.

In this programme you will learn how to interview an artist on radio which could set you up to join a local reporting group after the project. No radio experience is needed to get involved in this project, this is your chance to learn!

What will I need to do?

• Attend an ‘Introduction to Radio Interviewing’ session with Riverside Radio, learn the ins and outs of preparing for a radio interview. Riverside Radio will assign you a WAF artist to interview.
• Attend your recording session at Riverside Radio studio to interview an act, learn to set up mics and recording equipment.
• Take part in Wandsworth Arts Festival by attending the launch event and seeing performances
• Use your new skills to conduct interviews for creative and artistic events happening across Wandsworth – this will be ad-hoc and organised around your schedule

• May – One after school workshop, 'Introduction to Radio Interviewing', at Riverside Radio, Battersea
• May – One after school session, interviewing artists, at Riverside Radio, Battersea
• Wed 22 May, 4.30pm – 6pm (in person) - Introduction to Wandsworth Arts Fringe
• Thu 6 June, 5pm  - In person festival launch event (optional)
• 1 day during Fri 7 June – Sun 23 June – Watch a performance at Wandsworth Arts Fringe (your choice, subject to availability - 2 tickets will be provided free of charge for each reporter and you're welcome to bring a friend or relative).
• July 2024 – April 2025 – ad-hoc reporting opportunities with Riverside Radio, covering events and activities across the borough (organised around your schedule)
